Hi there! Welcome to Ban Karo, the world's first social spam filtering service! We are here to help you utilize the service optimally, and shall spare no efforts in assisting you in your quest to regain control over your privacy and your mobile phone.

Ban Karo has been designed from the ground up taking into account the complexities of modern life. We have spent a lot of time in minimizing (yes, minimizing) the number of services we provide, so that you do not have to waste any time at all while using Ban Karo!

Have a look here:

In a nutshell, Ban Karo offers you the following facilities:

VIEW SPAM LIST

TOP

What is it?
For most Ban Karo users, this is the most important feature.
Clicking on this button allows you to view the spam telephone numbers that have been added recently to your account. You can also choose to view the full list of numbers that have been added over time to your account.

How do I use it?
These numbers are not very helpful unless you get them onto your phone and in your contact book.

You can do this in multiple ways:

  • Mail Me: Emails you the list of numbers that you have selected.
  • SMS Me: Once you have selected a group of numbers that you want to add, we can SMS you the selected numbers. (Free for a limited period.)
  • Mark As Seen: If you've added the numbers manually to your contact book, or if you're just not interested in receiving these numbers, you can mark them as seen, and you'll never be bothered by them again.

Numbers that are sent to you by mail or SMS shall not appear in your recently added list, but will be permanently stored in your full list in case you ever need them again.

REPORT SPAM

TOP

What is it?
For Ban Karo users who have been repeatedly harassed by some telemarketing spam calls, or those who want to help a lot of people escape spam calls – this is your chance!

How do I use it?
To use this service, all you have do is register the number which spammed and harassed you, along with the type of call, and your work is done. You've successfully hunted down one more spammer!

At this stage, Ban Karo guides the phone numbers added by users to the appropriate recipients, using its trusted, environment-friendly algorithms. The system thus takes the hard work out of protecting multiple users from irritating spam calls.

Each number you report to Ban Karo appears below; it's really easy to correct any mistakes that you might make while reporting. Just press the Delete button that appears next to each reported spam number, and the number vanishes.

MANAGE YOUR TRUST CIRCLE

TOP

What is it?
Every Ban Karo user has a trust circle consisting of friends, colleagues and other acquaintances.

This trust circle defines, for each user, an implicit social context which serves to filter out useless phone numbers and only retain relevant spam numbers which are most likely to bother, irritate and otherwise spam you.

How do I use it?
You are initially shown the number of people already in your trust circle. You should add people to your trust circle if:

  • you want to introduce new people to the Ban Karo service, or

  • you believe the quality of spam numbers you are getting is not too great

The more people there are in your trust circle, the more spam numbers you will get. However, this could lead to dilution of your trust circle, and you could start getting useless spam numbers. For example, if you reside in Bangalore but add somebody in Mumbai, there is a good chance of you receiving spam numbers related to Mumbai.

Hence, you should only add people who are relevant to your social context, such as colleagues in office. The rule of thumb is to only add those persons who would have got the same telemarketing spam call if they would have been in your place.

You can also remove people from your trust circle. You should do this if:

  • Someone in your circle is sending you fake spam numbers

  • Someone in your circle is sending you irrelevant spam numbers

USER SETTINGS

TOP

What is it?

It's a simple way of modifying the information that Ban Karo stores about you.

We realize the fact that a majority of options and application settings remain unused, and are often a hindrance to the power user, which is why we made a conscious decision to cut down on the number of options that a user can modify.

Our intent was to make the User Settings feature totally redundant, but we also recognized the fact that some people retain the very good habit of changing passwords for their applications regularly.

How do I use it?

Ban Karo allows you to change your password, as frequently as you want to. We do not plan to add any more options in this module.
